All tips given the month of July will be donated to the Brooke Bruns family of Versailles. Brooke is 14 years old, the daughter of Josh and Becky Bruns, and the sister to Mason (16), Braxton (12), Mathis (10), and Brenna (4). Josh currently is a manager at Weaver Bros Inc. in Versailles and Becky is a stay at home mom. Brooke will be an 8th grader at Versailles Exempted School this fall.
In the beginning of January 2026, Brooke started to have random neck pain. In the weeks following, her pain was getting worse. On January 13, Josh and Becky decided to take Brooke to their family doctor, who immediately referred her to a Neurologist in Dayton Children’s for further evaluation. Her pain continued to get worse, she became dizzy, nauseous, and had numbness and swelling in her limbs. On January 20, Brooke was taken to the ER, were they performed a Cat Scan and found she had Chiari Malformation (Type 1) and two benign cysts on the left and right lateral ventricles of her brain.
On February 3, Brooke underwent an MRI where it was discovered that there were various large benign cysts throughout her whole spinal column and brain stem. Due to this diagnosis, in April Brooke received decompression brain surgery to remove any blockages and help get her spinal fluid flowing again to hopefully help shrink the size of her cysts. Since the surgery, Brooke has been doing great. Brooke’s family have learned some of her triggers and have had some setbacks along the way, but her pain has been minimal through it all. Brooke has been attending summer school one day a week to help catch her up from all the missed school. On July 17, Brooke will have another MRI to see if her cysts are shrinking on their own. If they see improvement, they will continue to monitor them and have another MRI 1 year post-op to check again. She will continue to need MRIs throughout her life to monitor the cysts and Chiari Malformation.
Brooke enjoys fishing, volleyball, drawing, hanging out with family friends and loves animals epically her dog Ivy. Let us keep the Bruns family in our prayers. Your generous donations will help pay for Brooke’s ongoing medical bills. Thank you and God Bless!
