All tips given the month of November will be donated to the Randy May family of Fort Loramie. Randy is 60 years old, married to Kathy, and their children are Julie, Erica and Hannah. In March 2025, they were blessed with their first grandson, Knox. Randy was a mechanical engineer at Machine Concepts in Minster, but retired in 2024 for medical reasons. Kathy is a physical therapist and works at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.
In late summer of 2022, Randy was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. His liver was failing to function properly, and he began experiencing significant weight loss, along with cognitive issues due to the liver’s inability to filter toxins from the body. His abdomen would often fill up with fluid rapidly, requiring many trips to Upper Valley Medical Center for drainage. After much testing, Randy was told that he would need a liver transplant and he would be put on the waiting list in hopes of receiving a new liver.
After a long period of waiting, Randy finally received a call that a match had been found. On June 10, 2023, Randy underwent surgery to receive his first liver transplant. The surgery was successful and after a long recovery, Randy was able to have a new lease on life.
In the spring of 2025, Randy began to experience signs of organ rejection. He became extremely fatigued, had loss of appetite and experienced nausea. After multiple biopsies, it was confirmed that his body was rejecting the liver. During this time Randy received many medical treatments in an attempt to save the liver, but the rejection continued to worsen. On August 1, 2025, Randy was admitted into UC Medical Center and was told he needed a second liver transplant. On August 21, 2025, he underwent a second liver transplant, however this surgery was more complicated than the first. Immediately after the surgery, Randy’s heart went into shock due to the stress of surgery on his body. His heart rate began to fluctuate, going into AFIB, his kidney function had decreased, and his blood pressure was rapidly dropping. He was quickly moved to the Cardiovascular ICU where over 20 doctors and nurses spent hours trying to stabilize him.
By sheer strength and the grace of God, Randy was able to be stabilized. He remained on a ventilator and underwent continuous dialysis following his surgery. After being hospitalized for 49 days, Randy was moved to PAM Health and Rehab Hospital of Miamisburg, for three weeks, where he received dialysis treatments and began working with physical and occupational therapy to regain strength and relearn everyday tasks like sitting upright, standing, walking, and more. He was transferred to UVMC inpatient rehab, for more aggressive therapies. When healthy Randy enjoys woodworking, gardening and being a general “fix it” guy.
Let us keep the May family in our prayers. Your generous tip will help cover their ongoing medical bills. Thank you and God Bless!
