Tip of the Month Recipient | The Mullins Family

All tips given the month of November will be donated to the family of Veronica Mullins of St. Marys. Veronica is 47 years old and married to her husband Shawn, they have 4 children, sons, Terry 26 and Cole 16 and daughters Lauren 22 and Hannah 17. They are also blessed with a granddaughter Harlow who is 8 months old.

Veronica was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 3 in the fall of 2022 after she went to the ER for back pain. A chest x-ray showed a suspicious spot and the ER physician thought it was cancerous and he sent her to Lima Memorial Hospital for a biopsy, and she had the procedure done the next morning. After several misdiagnoses her lymphoma was confirmed, and she started chemotherapy treatment in September 2022. This was a difficult diagnosis for her to hear as she had been diagnosed in 2009 with narcolepsy and cataplexy which resulted in her becoming disabled.

Veronica went through multiple rounds of chemo to shrink the tumors but unfortunately scans showed two masses were still present after chemotherapy. She then started radiation treatments in April of 2023. She had 5-6 weeks of daily radiation on her chest and abdomen and has received more than 25 radiation treatments. Her last scans were clear, and she will repeat the scans in 3 months and then again in 6 months to see if the cancer is gone or returns and what her prognosis will be.

During Veronica’s chemo and radiation treatments she started having bulging discs in her spine, (the doctors are unsure if this was caused by her treatments). Because of constant pain she had a consultation with a spinal surgeon and had surgery for her back on Oct. 10, 2023. She is at home now trying to recover and gain her strength back. Harlow is a bright light in her life and brings Veronica and Shawn so much joy!

Shawn is a property manager and Veronica is unable to work. They have medical insurance, but it only covers 80% of her medical bills. The Mullins family has a huge amount of medical bills/debt and will continue to have bills coming in.

Your generous tip will help cover their many medical expenses and bills. Let us keep Veronica and her family in our daily prayers. Thank you and may God bless you!
