Tip of the Month Recipient | The Klopfenstein Family

All tips given the month of October will be donated to the Elizabeth Klopfenstein family of Wapakoneta. Elizabeth is 10 years old, has two older sisters Erica and Emily, one younger brother Elliot, and daughter to Anthony and Kristi Klopfenstein. She is a fifth grader at Wapakoneta Schools.

Elizabeth was born with cerebral palsy, scoliosis, lower vertebrea abnormalities, and a rare chromosome deletion called Chromosome 9p Minus Syndrome. She also suffers from a Chiari Malformation, low muscle tone, and is intellectually delayed. When Elizabeth was born, she had a small Omphalocele which required her to have emergency surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital the same day she was born. She also had a major cranio vault remodel surgery when she was just 10 months old, at Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas. This team in Texas are still reviewing and addressing the possibility for a potential need of another cranio vault remodel surgery to expand her skull in her future as her brain grows without the cranial space to do so, which pushes unwanted presser on her spine. She has done individualized physical, occupational, and speech therapies her whole life. This year, due to her scoliosis and spinal abnormalities, her parents made the difficult decision to have a spinal surgery to remove the spinal abnormality, fuse the area, and placed rods and screws along her spinal column. The surgery was on July 17, 2024 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. It was more invasive than expected, and by God’s grace it was successful. This should help with her growth, development, and reduce pain as she gets older. She has started intense physical therapy at May PT and Performance in Botkins that will continue for years. In the future she will be fitted for a mobility wheelchair to provide her with independence. The Klopfenstein family plan on get modifications to their home and vehicle to accommodate this.

Elizabeth loves her community and is active in her church, the Wapakoneta football and cheerleading teams, and is an equestrian which has been very therapeutic for her. She is the Auglaize County Honorary Equine Princess, the Young Ambassador Rider for the YEDA-EWD. Elizabeth radiates great spirit and attitude to her entire community. She is always smiling and sharing compliments. Your generous donations will help pay for Elizabeth’s ongoing medical bills. Thank you and God bless!
